PRESS RELEASE:

DATE: 01 May 2008

Strathclyde Police now using PRONTO

Strathclyde Police, in conjunction with National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA), is taking part in an eight month Mobile Data Trial. Contracts have been awarded to Arqiva and Kelvin Connect to supply a mobile data solution to approximately 140 officers. The officers will utilise Personal Digital Assistants (PDA's) and in car Mobile Data Terminals (MDT's) using multiple bearers, including GPRS and Airwave. The mobile data solution will give officers a secure connection to National and Force Databases. The trial will integrate Arqiva's Police Mobile Data Solution with the PRONTO electronic police notebook application on the PDAs, enabling data to be transferred between applications to minimise data input. Strathclyde officers will be able to perform a number of routine tasks whilst on patrol reducing paperwork. It is anticipated that this will assist in allowing an improvement in police visibility and efficiency, and will ultimately result in increased public reassurance. The trial will commence in the first quarter of 2008 in GA Sub Division, Govan, and will also include a small number of Road Policing officers.

Kelvin Connect's PRONTO electronic police notebook will enable officers to make notes, complete statements, and enter all required information at the scene of the incident for 16 processes including crime reports, road crash reports and traffic tickets. This will reduce the burden of paper work from front line officers and streamline back-office processes. The PRONTO solution also supplies a database known as PRONTO Manager. This system provides the Force with a facility to manage all information gathered allowing for recording, searching, retrieval, archiving and auditing processes.
