Lothian & Borders Police
Key issues
Lothian & Borders Police, as part of their process improvement strategy utilising systems thinking methodology, in partnership with Kelvin Connect, concluded that the capability for officers to capture information electronically at the scene of an incident would address the following key issues:
- Police officers spend far too much time doing paperwork and re-keying information into a number of disparate IT systems
- The administrative effort required to complete each incident process continues to increase
- Police support staff spend far too much time reformatting information
- Police officers are required to produce more quality intelligence
- Any mobile software system must be secure
- Police officers have varying degrees of technical ability
Benefits
Working closely with Lothian & Borders Police, over the last 4 years Kelvin Connect has developed PRONTO to meet the force's complex requirements. Lothian & Borders Police is rolling out PRONTO to 250 officers and has already realised the following benefits:
- Administration time saving of at least one hour per officer per shift
- Increased police visibility and effectiveness
- The percentage of traffic tickets returned to officers because of inaccuracies reduced from up to 20% to 0%
- The volume of intelligence reports submitted by operational officers increased
- The public's and officers' perception was of a more professional service being provided
- Improved officers' morale
Results
"Kelvin Connect Ltd delivered in every area. Their knowledge of internal processes and operational working practices, gleaned through the previous trial, proved to be invaluable to the success of the project. An atmosphere of trust and understanding existed with all issues being discussed in a positive manner and quick resolutions being implemented." Inspector Norman Dixon - Lothian & Borders Police, Project Manager.
